Working Principle

Reverse osmosis operates on the principle of pressure-driven separation. When feed water is subjected to pressure greater than its natural osmotic pressure, pure water molecules pass through the semi-permeable membrane, while most dissolved salts and contaminants are rejected.

The result is two streams:

  • Permeate (Product Water): Purified water that passes through the membrane
  • Concentrate (Reject Water): Brine or wastewater containing the retained contaminants

This process ensures high salt rejection efficiency and consistent product water quality with low energy consumption when optimized properly.
